Our Most Memorable Kitchen Transformations

5 of our complete kitchen overhauls & renovations to inspire your next project.

Developed in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s, The Woodlands, Texas is a beautiful place to live and grow a family — we know because most of us here at Charbonneau Interiors have done it, and have lived here for over fifteen years. Lots are tree-lined, homes are built well, and school systems are some of the best in the country.

But while the homes are built well, oftentimes their ‘90s to early ‘00s design don’t necessarily reflect who we are today. More and more, our clients come to us with the hope of transforming their 1990s home they’ve lived in for years into their forever home… a place they'll love to be for many more years to come.

Kitchen renovations are truly our bread & butter, and with over two decades of experience, each project brings a new challenge and excitement to see how our design team can be creative. The goal? To make the homes our clients have raised their families in one they can enjoy for many years after as empty nesters.

In honor of that, here’s 5 of our most memorable kitchen transformations, before-and-afters, and renovations to hopefully inspire your own renovation!

(And, if you're interested... we've got a few tips on what to think about before you begin your next kitchen renovation. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post to see!)

ONE

From Old World '80s to Modern, Organic Retreat: Watertree Renovation

What was once a 1980s home filled with dark wood features and a closed-off floor plan is now an open, light-filled, functional family home, with a completely repurposed layout.

Together, Nancy Charbonneau and Bill Hughes brought new life back into this retired property through restoration and renovation, from revitalizing the original millwork, reimagining the square footage, to a complete revival and revitalization of the home. The result: one of our most memorable transformations at our Watertree Revival renovation project.

TWO

A true reflection of loving where you live: Meadowbrook Homestead Renovation

Like many of the homes we first walk into in Houston, we found a once-loved 1990s home that held true to the decade it was built in, from its well-worn tile flooring to its now-outdated compartmentalized floor plan.

But our clients (thankfully!) saw the potential this home had, as it sits in a beautifully secluded cul-de-sac, perfect for their big and busy family. They bought the property, then brought in prominent builder Bill Hughes, who invited our team at Charbonneau Interiors to tackle the project with him, and turn this outdated house into a beautiful home.

After getting to know our clients through our experiential onboarding phase, we were able to get to the heart and essence of who our clients are — and give them a custom home that truly reflected who they are and how they live!

THREE

From Outgrown '90s to French Country Fun: Highland Court Renovation

Our guiding vibe: a french-inspired renovation and refresh for these New Orleans natives. We began with a 1990s home in The Woodlands designed in true "Old World" fashion: dark cabinetry, closed-in spaces, and a little bit of that "outgrown" feeling.

This home had functioned well for this family since their move-in decades prior — but now, it was time to modernize and make it truly function for this entertaining-loving family.

FOUR

Bringing Contemporary Glam to an Outgrown Home: Maple Path Renovation

The intention with the Maple Path renovation was to create a cohesive design that honors the family’s years of nostalgic memories, and embodies the bright future ahead.

Weaving fresh pieces with contemporary elements and a hint of glam, this design begins a new chapter in this family home that focuses on family, gathering, and feeling like home for everyone who enters. Take the full tour of Maple Path here!

FIVE

From Tuscan Traditional to Modern Farmhouse: Dawn Brook Renovation

A twist on traditional, this kitchen + bath renovation added a butlers pantry to the floor plan, wooden accents throughout the first floor, and a gathering haven that we know friends and family will enjoy for many years to come.

We began where most homes built in The Woodlands in 1990s do: dark, traditional finishes, archways and compartmentalized spaces, small and square kitchens fit more for function than fun. Many of our renovations begin with homes like these — they were built to fit life almost 25 years ago, but many of the families who settled in them are looking for something new that fits their life now.
